About the Role:
Are you ready to revolutionize the future of work? Industrious is on the lookout for an energetic and proactive Commercial Counsel/Senior Commercial Counsel to join our dynamic in-house legal team.
As Commercial Counsel/Senior Commercial Counsel, you will be responsible for all aspects of commercial contracting, including deal structuring, and drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts. You will also be integral to providing legal support to a wide range of Industrious’ internal customers and developing scalable infrastructure to help Industrious achieve its goals in a time of dynamic growth. You must be intellectually curious, self-confident, a stellar communicator and problem-solver, and have a passion for working in a high growth, entrepreneurial environment.
This role can based in any of Industrious's major markets including New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston and Washington DC.
At Industrious you will:
- Manage a wide range of legal matters, including commercial agreements, HR/employment, real estate, construction, dispute resolution, and daily reactive and proactive legal needs.
- Assist with key company strategic initiatives, including extra-ordinary transactions (e.g. equity and debt financings and mergers and acquisitions), as well as day to day membership agreements and vendor agreements.
- Collaborate with business partners to ensure that all legal related work undertaken is in alignment with the company's overall mission, messaging, and strategy.
- Provide advice and counsel to various company teams (e.g., operations, finance, HR, real estate, construction, IT/digital, etc.) on legal risks and negotiation strategy.
- Assist with Board and Committee minutes and organizational documents and oversee the initial production of draft minutes.
- Work with teams across Industrious on corporate policies, processes, and training.
- Maintain and manage legal templates and processes.
- Provide advice and guidance regarding risk management and dispute resolution.
- Proactively identify opportunities for internal process improvements and implement them.
- Oversee the workflow and work product of paralegals and temporary members of the Legal Team.
What we look for:
- 5+ years of experience with complex commercial matters of which at least two years strongly preferred as in-house counsel in a startup, technology or other dynamic environment
- J.D. from a well regarded law school. Top-tier law firm training strongly preferred. Admission to local state bar or ability to register as in-house counsel
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Strong drafting and analytical skills
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations
- Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Enthusiastic and proactive attitude with the ability to identify gaps and willingness to step in where needed
- A creative problem solver who is open to new ideas and new approaches
- Proven track record of learning quickly, taking initiative, working proactively and being resourceful
- Experience with or strong excitement for a dynamic, high-growth environment
